Thank-yous after the wedding: when and how
Thank-yous are sent within two to three months after the wedding, once the photos have arrived. A personal note that mentions the gift or a memory of the day counts for more than the quality of the card.
How soon
Two to three months is the usual timeframe: it leaves time to receive the photos and catch your breath. Beyond six months, the gesture loses its meaning. If you're running late, send them anyway, with a simple note.
For whom
- To all the guests present.
- To those who couldn't come but sent a gift or a note.
- To those who helped: witnesses, officiant, loved ones who lent equipment or put guests up.
- To the suppliers you were happy with: an online review does them a real service.
What to write
Three lines are enough: thank you for coming, a detail showing you remember them, thank you for the gift, naming it. For a cash contribution, say what it was or will be used for.
Avoiding mistakes
Note down gifts as you go, as soon as you open the envelopes, with the giver's name. It is tedious the day after the wedding, and impossible three weeks later.
Card, photo or message
A card with a photo of the day remains the most appreciated form. A message with a link to the photos works very well for friends. What matters is that everyone receives something.
